Hog Plate FAQ's

This section is dedicated to helping answer your questions about the Missouri Razorback License Plates. We have compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions and Answers and want to give you access to them. If you do not see the answer to your question listed here, please contact us.

If I currently have a Personalized/ Specialty License Plate, can I keep my old text and convert to a “Go Hogs” plate?

Yes.  On the form DOR-1716, write your current personalized plate configuration in the box labeled "Current Plate Number", and also write that number as your first (and only) choice in Step 4 of the form.

Can I get a “Go Hogs” plate if I just renewed my registration?

You can sign up for a “Go Hogs” plate anytime.  Registration fees will be pro-rated when you pick up the new plate from the contract office.  If your plates are coming due soon, go ahead and renew.  It my take some time to get the initial 200 applications submitted and you don’t want to get in trouble for expired plates.

Where do I pick up my “Go Hogs” plate?

On the DOR-1716 form, you will be asked to select which contract office you would like your “Go Hogs” plate sent.  You will be notified once it is delivered to the contract office and can pick it up at your selection location.  To find the contract office nearest you, go to http://www.dor.mo.gov/mvdl/offloc/

How much do the “Go Hogs” plates cost?

$40/year in addition to regular registration fees.  The state of MO charges $15/year for any Specialty Plate.  The remaining $25/year donation goes to a scholarship fund for Missouri students to attend the University of Arkansas.

How many text selection chances do I get for my “Go Hogs” plate?

On the DOR-1716 form, each person signing up for a Hog Plate will receive six (6) opportunities to pick their own text.  Do NOT use your current state-assigned plate designation as a personalized text choice.

How many places for text do I have?

The letter and/or number configuration on specialty license plates shall not exceed six (6) characters in length.  One dash (-), apostrophe (‘), or space may be used in the plate configuration if desired, but it shall be counted as one of the characters in the configuration.

Is there a way to see what Personalized Text is already taken?

While there is no web site to test drive your personalized text, you can email mvbmail@dor.mo.gov .  You should receive a response in 1-2 days.

Are “Go Hogs” plates available with the disabled emblem?

Yes, but that would affect the number of characters available to you in the plate configuration (either three characters, or two characters plus a dash, space or apostrophe).  For more information, please read the instructions in Step 4 on form DOR-1716.
