Board Member Commitments
Role of Board Member
The Board of Directors is an active board. Each member is assigned to one or two committees and is expected to contribute. This is not a "rubber stamp" board!
Board members are required to serve as examples to the membership through support of Association programs with attendance at events, participation in auxiliary programs and encouragement of chapter leaders where appropriate. Term of Service Board members serve a three-year term commencing July 1 of a given year to coincide with the Association's fiscal year (July-June). Although not a guarantee, board members have been asked occasionally to serve a second consecutive three-year term.
Meeting Requirements
Three full board meetings are conducted during the year. These are held each fall, winter and spring. Locations include Fayetteville as well as other in-state locations.
In addition, one to two committee meetings are held during the year at various times and places.
If assigned to the Executive Committee, a board member can expect to have additional meetings, including a Planning Retreat during the summer.
Failure to attend at least one board meeting annually will call for automatic removal from the board.
Financial Considerations
As a volunteer, a board member will not receive compensation for travel and lodging expenses to meetings or events. However, some members deduct these expenses as a "gift in kind" contribution of service to the organization, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. We suggest you discuss this service as a contribution with your tax accountant.
